Abstract:
While AI has achieved human-level performance in specific tasks, it often fails when deployed in real-world applications — like failing to detect a large truck in front of a Tesla. Why do such errors occur, and how long will it be before AI is widely and reliably deployed in everyday life?
This talk will demystify the current state of AI. We'll begin by reviewing the technical advancements that have brought AI to its present capabilities. Then, we’ll delve into the challenges of transitioning AI from the lab to real-world settings. You’ll learn about the most pressing practical issues, which are often data-centric, and open research problems like ensuring AI reliability and safety.
